For Years I Have Warned of a Looming U.S. Debt Crisis. Is It Imminent?

For many years I have warned about a looming debt crisis in the U.S. Because members of Congress are obsessed with getting reelected, they borrow and spend as much as possible, ignoring all of the economic warning signals which have grown louder and louder over time. Sure, periodically, one Congressperson or another will raise his or her voice in protest about the profligacy of the Federal government, but usually these complaints are only directed at the borrowing and spending of the other political party. This absurd process has gone on for decades, but with the federal debt passing $40 trillion and the annual interest payments on the outstanding debt passing $1 trillion, global investors are starting to pay attention.
